Another equally important village of the island is Potamia, which lies 10 km from Thassos and is built on the slopes of the tallest mountain of the island, Ypsario, in a lush landscape with rich vegetation. An ideal destination for lovers of climbing because, from the village begins the path which leads to conquer the highest peak of Ypsarion. Sounds of running water and singing birds are invading the village offers a unique magic.
For art lovers, we note that here is the museum of the famous sculptor Polygnotos Vagi, created in honor of the place of origin.
Skala Potamia, known also as Golden Coast (Chrissi Akti) is just two to three kilometers from the village. Pine trees which in many places literally touch the turquoise waters of the beautiful beach, make a unique setting, which attracts thousands of tourists every summer.
The imposing building of Tarsana, which builted by monks of Mount Athos, dominates the harbor area and is ideal for night summer walks.
Skala Potamias is famous for its nightlife in recent years and is the most popular destination especially for young people. There are several hotels, many rooms, restaurants, cafes and clubs.
