The village of Prinos is located 19 km from the capital. It is fairly densely populated and is a cultural and commercial center of the region, especially after the discovery of oil in the sea area. In recent years the village of Prinos held every Monday bargain and visited by many locals from the villages of Thassos and many tourists. Also in this area there is a health center and a post office.
Skala Prinos is located 2 km from the village and is 12 nautical miles from Kavala, which communicates with ferry - boats. The area has developed considerably in recent years; there are luxury resorts, campsites, rooms, cafes and shops to rent bikes and cars. It is first destination residence, especially for travelers who do not have transportation. In a short distance from Skala Prinos is the "small pine grove," which combines with an amazing way the sea and the pine forest.
The settlements of Small (Mikro) and Large (Megalo) Kazaviti are two of the most significant, traditional settlements of the island. Mikro Kazaviti located about 4 km from the village of Prinos and Megalo is half a kilometer from Mikro. These picturesque villages are built on the slopes of a hill deep in a valley. Lost in the forest were built in the early 16th century, due to the rise of piracy, which forced residents to move inland.
The area was famous for its vineyards and wine produced, which shows from the name "Kazaviti" which derives from the casa = house and vitis = vine.
From 1960 onwards the villages were gradually deserted because most people sought their fortune in the lowlands of the island. Most current residents are foreigners who maintain there their summer homes. Today, however, have returned there and many locals, who developed several tourism businesses.
Anyone who visited Kazaviti will admire the old houses and churches and will travel with the sounds of running water. Furthermore you can enjoy local dishes in unique taverns. Finally in a short distance from the Mikro Kazaviti is the monastery of Agios (Saint) Panteleimon, which celebrates on July 27th and attracts many worshipers.
